Goethe B2 writing practice
Use focused Goethe B2 writing practice to organise arguments, control register and correct recurring grammar problems in essays and formal messages.
Goethe B2 preparation demands more than fluent everyday German. Learn to follow complex arguments, choose precise vocabulary and communicate a well-structured position in writing and speaking.
The Goethe-Zertifikat B2 has four modules. You can take them together or separately, and each module is scored on its own.
| Module | Time | Structure | What you do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lesen (Reading) | 65 min | 5 parts | Longer articles, opinions, guides and rules at B2 level |
| Hören (Listening) | approx. 40 min | 4 parts | News, interviews, presentations and discussions |
| Schreiben (Writing) | 75 min | 2 parts | An opinion post in a forum and a formal message in a work context |
| Sprechen (Speaking) | approx. 15 min | 2 parts | A short presentation and a discussion with your partner (in pairs) |
Every module is assessed separately and you need at least 60% in each one you take. If you fail one module, you only retake that module.

Train presentations and discussions: introduce a position, support it with examples, respond naturally and keep the exchange moving.
Adjust the pace to your exam date and spend more time on the skill with the lowest practice scores.
Lesen takes 65 minutes, Hören about 40 minutes, Schreiben 75 minutes and Sprechen about 15 minutes.
Two tasks: an opinion post in an online forum on a social topic, where you give and justify your view, and a formal message in a professional context.
You need at least 60% in each module. Modules are graded independently, so you can pass three and retake only the fourth.
With a solid B1, many learners need two to four months of focused preparation. Timed practice shows which module needs the most work.
