What is the TELC German exam?
TELC qualifications assess German at different CEFR levels and for different contexts. General-language exams and specialist qualifications can have different tasks. A preparation book labelled “German B1” is not automatically a match for your booked exam.
TELC and CEFR levels: A1–C2
- A1–A2: everyday exchanges, familiar vocabulary and short messages.
- B1–B2: connected communication, explanations and increasingly detailed viewpoints.
- C1–C2: complex texts and precise expression in demanding contexts.
These descriptions help you orient your study. Use the exact exam’s sample test to judge the task demands, and check the level required by your receiving institution.
Exam structure and scoring
For telc Deutsch B1, prepare written tasks and an oral examination. The written practice includes reading, language elements, listening and writing. Speaking requires interaction as well as your own answers.
Do not carry a pass rule or timing from one TELC qualification into another. Use the marking information that accompanies the official sample materials for your exam. Review both components rather than relying on an overall practice average.

TELC fees, registration and recognition
Ask your local centre for the current fee, next available date, registration deadline and expected result schedule. Check retake conditions before paying. Avoid budgeting from a fee quoted for another country or level.
Ask the receiving university, employer or authority whether the specific TELC certificate meets its requirements. The certificate name, level and intended use all matter.
